Red Raiders roll to win on Blue Devils’ Senior Night

The Fitchburg/ Monty Tech ice hockey team played the role of spoiler Thursday night, ruining Senior Night for Leominster in a 8-2 win at the Wallace Civic Center.

Jacob Pruneau had a hat trick, Jackson Leider dished out three assists and Easton Minardi made 16 saves as the Red Raiders snapped a threegame skid

Tied at 1 after 15 minutes of play, the Red Raiders (7- 8, 4- 5 Coughlin) came to life in the second, scoring twice in a 56-second span to take control. Tucker Watkins (assist) notched his first varsity goal on the power play, converting a feed from Colin Hines at the 5:24 mark to put the Red Raiders ahead.

Pruneau added a goal less than a minute later, with assists awarded to Kyle Gendron and Austin Haas, as the Red Raiders grabbed a 3-1 edge.

Pruneau added his second and third of the night in the third period, while Hines and Cam Begnoche notched power-play tallies in the final 15 minutes. Chris Stefanilo added his first varsity goal in the final minute.

Gendron scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season with 4:58 left in the first period to open the scoring, but the Blue Devils (1-142, 0-8) evened things at 1 with 2:29 left in the first as Jacob Turner turned on the jets to get through the Fitchburg defense and beat Minardi..

Jordan Adu netted a goal in the third and Kayden Byington tallied a pair of assists in the loss.

Leominster seniors Aiden Dale, Dominic Bourque, Cody Larsen, Andreus Shultz and Adu were honored prior to the start of the contest.

Clark Tourney field announced

The pairings for the annual Clark High School Tournament were released Thursday, with both the Oakmont Regional boys and girls basketball teams and the Lunenburg High girls earning berths.

The Oakmont boys (9- 6) were tabbed the seventh seed in the Large School division, drawing a contest against No. 2 Clinton ( 13-2) at Shepherd Hill Regional on Feb. 17 at 1:45 p.m. The Spartan girls (5-10) are the eighth seed in the Large School brackets, facing No. 1 Tantasqua (11- 4) on Feb. 17 at 4:30 p.m. at Grafton High School.

The Lunenburg girls (5-10) are the sixth seed in the Large School pairings and will play No. 3 Hudson (10- 6) at Grafton High on Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. in a quarterfin­al. Those programs will provide a preview of their Clark tourney tilt on Friday, playing a regular season contest in Lunenburg.
