Blitz and Java both need a home

This week features pets from two shelters

- By Sally Cragin

Say “aloha” to Java, a gorgeous black cat who’s just five years old and currently at Ahimsa Haven Animal Shelter. He’s a “big boy” with elegant midnight-black fur who is very sociable and enjoys the company of humans. He’d been living on the streets for a while, so he is grateful to be indoors.

Java is definitely of a rare type — a kitty who enjoys the company of a laid back dog, so if you’ve got a pup who needs a feline friend, Java is your guy. He has been diagnosed as FIV+ and can live a good, long life, but because of his condition, his fee has been waived, which means he’s a bargain for the right adopter.

The Sterling shelter is holding an open House Food and Litter Drive on Sunday, Feb. 11, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 273 Central St. When you adopt a pet from a shelter, you know you are getting a healthy pet.

Blitz at Broken Tail Rescue

“Blitz” means “lightning,” and this five-yearold, 55-pound working dog is “smart, food- driven, and loves playing fetch,” according to volunteers at Broken Tail Rescue. He’s housetrained, loves learning new trucks, and happily sleeps through the night in his crate.

Nevertheless, this handsome brown and white boxer-mix has been at the Shelter long enough, and needs a home with adults who are active. Blitz would love to accompany you on walks, runs, hikes, and car rides. However, he is cautious around new people, and will need an adopter who is understanding of a pup who needs space before he greets others.

His foster mom reports: “He LOVES hiking with me in the woods, has amazing recall, and loves playing fetch. I believe he would be the best dog on a farm, where he isn’t forced to interact with strangers. I strongly believe that when he is off leash, he will choose to avoid strangers as opposed to confronting them.
