FSU’S Bourassa claims weekly honor

Shirley native named MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week

Fitchburg State sophomore Liam Bourassa was named Massachuse­tts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

The Shirley collects his second weekly honor of the year after taking top honors in the javelin with an All-new England qualifying throw of 64.91 meters, while also qualifying for All- NE’S in the discus with a second- place mark of 46.02 meters at the 2024 Silfen Invitation­al, hosted by Connecticu­t College this past weekend.

In addition, Bourassa placed fifth in the hammer throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 49.13 meters as well as finishing fifth in the shotput with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.57 meters for the Falcons. With his throw in the javelin, Liam is currently ranked second nationally in the javelin.

Girls lacrosse

Boys lacrosse

LUNENBURG 11, LEOMINSTER 10 >> The Blue Knights (1-3) rallied to earn their first win of the spring.

Dom Carr had five goals and three helpers for Leominster (1- 6), while Ben Marchetti had three goals

and an assist in defeat.

WACHUSETT 8, OAKMONT 3 >>

Nuhuel Suarez potted a pair of goals as the Spartans (51) suffered their first loss of the season.

WALPOLE 10, NASHOBA 4 >>

Jack Schartner had a hat trick to pace the Wolves (2-2).

Baseball

WACHUSETT 4, NASHOBA 2

>> Ben Lamson and Milan Siano each drove in a run for the Wolves (1-2). WORCESTER SOUTH 5, LUNENBURG 4 >> Brett Richard went 2-for-3 for the Blue Knights (1-3).

Softball

NASHOBA 18, DRACUT 2 >> The Wolves (3-1) cruised in a Sheryl Jones Tournament

semifinal.

LEOMINSTER 11, GRAFTON 1 >>

Abby Barnaby went 3-for- 4 with two inside- the- park home runs, while Victoria Belcastro struck out seven to earn the win for the Blue Devils (4- 0).

LUNENBURG 15, MONTY TECH 5 >> Sarah Viveiros had a double and a home run and drove in three runs to pace the Blue Knights (3-1) in the win.

Volleyball

LEOMINSTER 3, ASSABET 0 >>

Set scores were 25-15, 25-23 and 25-21 for the Blue Devils (3-2).

Daniel Caetano led with 13 kills, 12 service points, three digs and two blocks, while Kevin Lee had 29 assists, seven service points and five digs. Quinn Maher-kellelea chipped in with 10 kills, 18 service points and six blocks.
