One way your com­pany can serve your com­mu­nity

My Story Mat­ters Non­profit en­joys work­ing with ed­u­ca­tional com­mu­ni­ties to help bring chil­dren cus­tom and per­sonal sto­ry­books. We hold events at schools to in­ter­view and pho­to­graph stu­dents for th­ese books.

Dur­ing the month of July, we had the op­por­tu­nity to go to a Utah County school and meet some amaz­ing kids that day! One of the most im­por­tant parts of th­ese in­ter­view­ing days are our volun- teers. Th­ese vol­un­teer in­ter­view­ers and pho­tog­ra­phers help things run smoothly at th­ese busy events.

We es­pe­cially love when com­pa­nies come as a team to vol­un­teer! GoRe­act is a com­pany who has vol­un­teered their time for us re­peat­edly, and came to our re­cent event for a com­pany ser­vice day.

Ken Mey­ers, a GoRe­act em­ployee, de- scribes GoRe­act as be­ing a, “Utah tech- nol­ogy com­pany that cre­ates soft­ware to help high school and col­lege stu­dents get bet­ter at real-world skills. We’re used in more than 500 uni­ver­si­ties world­wide, and we love mak­ing a dif­fer­ence for thou- sands of stu­dents and giv­ing them a bet­ter chance to suc­ceed in when they en­ter the work­force.”

Not only has GoRe­act pro­vided in­ter- view­ers for our events, mem­bers of their tech­ni­cal team “have do­nated pro­gram- ming time through­out the year to help the or­ga­ni­za­tion im­prove (My Story Mat- ters’) in­ter­view­ing soft­ware.” said Mey- ers.

GoRe­act looks for op­por­tu­ni­ties to serve their com­mu­nity and have re­ally en­joyed work­ing with My Story Mat­ters. At our re­cent event, GoRe­act em­ployee Sara Sea­mons said, “I in­ter­viewed two funny, won­der­ful 9-year-old girls from Mex­ico who had me laugh­ing one min- ute and my heart melt­ing the next. It was great to hear all about their per­son­al­i­ties, ex­pe­ri­ences, and dreams.”

The in­ter­views we con­duct are cen­tered around ques­tions that ex­plore the chil- dren’s lives, tal­ents, goals, and more! It is so fun to in­ter­act with the kids and rec- og­nize why their story mat­ters. Sea­mons con­tin­ued, “I loved their en­thu­si­asm for life, their op­ti­mism in some­times dif­fi­cult cir­cum­stances, and their hope for the fu- ture.” We are grate­ful for our vol­un­teers who take the time to come to th­ese My Story Mat­ters events and in­ter­act with won­der­ful kids.

Would your com­pany like to get in- volved in an amaz­ing ser­vice project op- por­tu­nity? GoRe­act highly rec­om­mends it. Sea­mons con­cluded, ”I loved the op- por­tu­nity for per­sonal in­ter­ac­tion as well as the chance to serve the com­mu­nity with my work col­leagues.”
