Public meeting to be held

-

The Shelby Historic Preservation Commission is nominating the Shelby Center Historic District, Most Pure Heart of Mary Church and the Marvin Memorial Library (now on the National Register of Historic Places), as well as the Shelby Pure Milk Barn on Whitney Avenue and the Shelby Mutual Insurance building on 19 Mansfield Avenue as Shelby Locally Designated Historic Landmarks.

A public hearing is scheduled for input at 9 a.m. Jan. 22, 2021 as part of the approval process. Because of COVID precautions, the meeting will be conducted remotely and live streamed from the city website. Letters of support or concerns may be submitted beforehand to Joe Gies, City Hall, 43 W. Main St., Shelby, OH 44875 or email to joegies@shelbycity.oh.gov by Jan. 21 to be read at the public hearing.

Chapter 1488: Historic Landmarks and Buildings in the Codified Ordinances of the City of Shelby allows the historic preservation commission to nominate properties as Locally Designated Historic Landmarks. City Council approves the nominations, which then become part of the local inventory. Local designation is a powerful tool in protecting and preserving Shelby’s local character, now and in the future.
