Firelands Symphony Orchestra brings holiday cheer to Jackson St. Pier

SANDUSKY - The Firelands Symphony Orchestra (FSO) will bring holiday greetings and deck the halls of the Jackson Street Pier. The FSO presents “A Christmas in July Holiday Pops Concert” on Sunday, July 25 at 7pm. This program features a variety of festive holiday carols, Yuletide classics, and holly-jolly hits.

The concert is free and open to the public due to generous funding from The Goff Family, The Patrick and Louise Murray Charitable Foundation, and Buckeye Broadband.

“A Christmas in July Holiday Pops Concert” offers a wide range of holiday music from all generations. Attendees will be treated to orchestral favorites like A Mad Russian’s Christmas and Carol of the Bells, as well as Christmas classics like Let It Snow, White Christmas, and Sleigh Ride. In addition, attendees should be on the lookout for special holiday surprises, including a visit from Santa Claus, all the way from the North Pole!

The concert showcases the full orchestra, with conductor and music director Carl Topilow, who will also perform with his clarinet. heartfelt ballads like Merry Christmas Baby and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

FSO’S executive director Tricia Applegate is ecstatic to continue the partnership with the Sandusky Parks Department to make live music available to local residents. “Since we were unable to perform our usual Holiday Pops concert due to the pandemic, we thought it would be great to make up for lost time and present a holiday concert on the pier for Christmas in July,” said Applegate.

Audience members are encouraged to bring their own blanket or chair to

enjoy the concert. Tents will also be available for audience seating if needed. Free parking is available at many downtown lots, including the Jackson Street lot on the corner of Jackson Street and Market Street. Drop off is available at the pier for disabled persons.

In accordance with the state’s most recent orders, fully vaccinated persons may attend without a facial covering and without socially distancing. Unvaccinated individuals should continue to mask when unable to consistently maintain a distance of six feet or more from individuals who are not members of their family/ household. Regardless of vaccination status, each individual should perform a daily health assessment and stay home if they have a fever, cough, or other signs of possible COVID19.
