DAVID JACOBS/SDG Newspapers The Butter Braid pastries arrived at Shelby High School for distribution on Nov. 1 as part of a fundraising effort. Brian Nabors, director of choral activities, and ninth-grader Avery Mongold were preparing the Butter Braids for people to pick up. They were ordered in advance following Shelby’s Butter Braid concert on Oct. 10. Nabors explained Butter Braid to the concert audience. “It’s a pastry filled with fruits and cheeses that we sell as a choir department,” he told the audience. “Now we’re working together as a music department. The band boosters and the choir boosters got together to form the music boosters. So we’re trying to raise money for pretty much anything whether it be trips or funding for music and things like that.” In all, 460 Butter Braids were ordered.
