Whippets celebrate title season

A championsh­ip season was celebrated Monday evening at the Shelby Nazarene Church.

Shelby’s football team was honored at a postseason awards ceremony.

The Whippets enjoyed another successful season as they captured their third consecutiv­e Mid Ohio Athletic Conference crown. The red and gray also qualified for the playoffs for the third year in a row and reached the quarterfin­als.

Special awards presented were: Sportsmans­hip Award — Luke Shepherd.

Academic Award — A.J. Cornette. Hungry Hounds Defensive Player of the Year — Andre Hill.

Offensive Player of the Year — Marshall Shepherd.

The Wilkins Award — Blaine Bowman.

Lineman of the Year — Xander Wilkins.

Scout Team Player of the Year — Izzy Roub.

Lifter of the Year — Camden Armstrong.

Captain Award — Luke Shepherd, Marshall Shepherd, Armstrong, Bowman and Wilkins.

Receiving their fourth varsity letter were Logan Green, Bowman, Hill, Marshall Shepherd and Wilkins.

Third year monograms went to Connor Henkel, David Ray, Luke

Shepherd and Armstrong.

Second year letters were received by Caleb Baker, Garrett Baker, Garrett Bates, Cam Cline, Grayson Heydinger, Joey Pollock, Issaiah Ramsey, Josh Sickmiller and Brayden Stone.

Earning their first varsity letter in football were Issiah Beck, Cornette, Miles Hall, Tanner Hartz, Max Hess, Karsen Homan, Kasper Marten, Nick Martincin, Roub, Amareon Russell, Eli Schwemley, Mason Vent, Josh Wallen, Skyler Winters and Kamdyn Wheeler.

Certificat­es of participat­ion were presented to Brody Baker, Trenton Braska, Triston Carr, Jayden Cottrill, Michael Crall,

Ethan Dawson, Canden Dorsey, Nic Eyster, Hayden Faith, Mark Forwith, Eric Junipa, Audric Kelly, Blake Kelly, Landon Kennard, Dennis Lafon, Casey Lantz, Exavier Machado, James Mahon, Josh Manuel, Devin Marsh, Micah Miller, Bryson Mitchell, Maverick Noel, Ferron Pena, Xadrian Ream, Tyler Rice, Ethan Roach, Logan Santiz, Micah Shackle, Jackson Stover, Cohen Sturts, Blake West and Hayden White.

Shelby posted a 6-0 mark in conference play and their overall record was 9-3. The Whippets defeated Clear Fork in the first round of the playoffs and bowed out after a 42-35 double overtime loss to Clyde.
