JV’S rip Galion, finish 21-0

NEW WASHINGTON — Shelby capped an undefeated junior varsity baseball campaign Saturday morning with an 11-0 rout of Galion in the Buckeye Central Tournament.

The Whippets, coached by Nathan Craig, finished the year with a 21-0 record.

The remainder of the tournament was rained out and canceled.

Casey Lantz pitched a one-hit shutout for SHS. He struck out seven and walked one in four innings.

Karsen Homan sparked Shelby at the plate with a 3-for-3 day that included a triple and a double. Garet Siped smacked a pair of hits. James Mahon tripled and Eli Schwemley doubled for the red and gray. Issiah Beck had a single.

The Whippets outscored Sandusky

Perkins 10-9 Friday evening.

SHS trailed 7-3 entering the bottom of the fifth inning and rang up five runs to regain an 8-7 advantage. The Pirates swiped the lead back in with two in the top of the sixth, but the home team rallied for two in the home half of the stanza to go back in front.

Homan’s RBI triple tied the game and he would score the winning run on an error.

Nic Eyster pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief for the win and struck out one and walked two. Starter Tanner Hartz allowed nine runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Homan ripped three hits to lead Shelby. Sipe smashed a pair of hits. Mav Noel doubled while Eyster, and Will Magers had a single apiece.

The Whippets hammered out 19 hits and pounded Ontario 18-1 during a five-inning junior varsity baseball game Wednesday.

Against opponents in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference, SHS was 14-0.

Shelby broke the game open with nine scores in the top of the second.

Mahon, Sipe and Schwemley keyed the Whippets at the plate with three hits apiece. Beck laced a triple and a single while Magers socked a double and a single. Homan and Lantz lined two hits apiece while Hayden Faith and Mav Noel each had one.

Lantz pitched the first four innings for the win. He allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Homan pitched the fifth and yielded a hit, a walk and a strikeout.
