Following are from the Shelby Department:

School detail, May 12, 7:24 a.m. — The resource officer for the Shelby City Schools received a call from a middle school administra­tor in reference to a student who was using his school computer to look up threatenin­g informatio­n. A meeting was held with the student and his mother. The student was discipline­d by the school, noted the report.

Warrant service, May 14, 7:42 p.m. — Shelby Police received informatio­n from an off-duty officer that a male subject who was wanted through several agencies with a number of arrest warrants was walking on West Main Street. The warrants through Wooster, Ashland, Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Shelby Police Department were confirmed.

The male was stopped and arrested. The male then advised officers of possible methamphet­amine in his bag and before searching his bag warned officers of a possible syringe inside. Officers found the suspected amphetamin­e, drug parapherna­lia and drug abuse instrument­s. Officers processed the evidence and transporte­d the subject to the Richland County Jail. Two evidence items were sent to the BCI Crime Lab for testing. Once the test results are complete, additional charges could be sought through the county prosecutor’s office.

911 hang-up call, May 15, 4:20 p.m. — Police received a 911 call and responded to a West End Boulevard address to find a family dispute in progress. There were arguments between household members over a juvenile opening a second story window without a screen in it. The incident turned physical and officers were unable to determine who reports

Police was the primary aggressor. Three people involved left the residence and as of now there are no criminal charges, according to the report. Police said the report was turned over to county children services for review.

Fight, May 16, 10:18 a.m. — The school resource officer was detailed to Shelby High School in reference to a fight. Two male students had gotten into a fight in the restroom. Both students were issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Search warrant, May 16, 12:27 p.m. — Officers executed a search warrant at a Marvin Avenue address for the offenses of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. Seven items of evidence were recovered, including three items listed within the search warrant. The seven items were retained as evidence and charges will be presented to the county prosecutor’s office.

All-terrain vehicle complaint, May 16, 2:41 p.m. — Shelby Police received a complaint of a red all-terrain vehicle driving around Shelby Reservoir No. 3. Upon locating the suspect, he gave a false name to evade arrest and subsequent­ly fled on the all-terrain vehicle. A dirt bike was recovered and charges for multiple offenses were forwarded to the municipal court for warrants on complaint.

Accident, May 17, 6:37 p.m. — Police were detailed to a two-vehicle accident on Mansfield Avenue. John Gushard, 75, of Shelby, was southbound on Mansfield Avenue in a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 and entered the turn lane and slowed to a near stop waiting for traffic to pass before turning into a business parking lot. A 2022 Jeep operated by Joseph Johnson, 34, of Shelby, was preparing to make a lefthand turn out of the business parking lot and head south on Mansfield Avenue, failed to yield and struck the Gushard vehicle in rear right side while it was still in the turn lane. The Jeep had minor damage and the Chevrolet S-10 had functional damage. Johnson was cited by police for a right of way when turning left violation.

Assault, May 18, 7:54 p.m. — Officers were detailed to East Smiley Avenue about an assault. The victim stated that her boyfriend and her were in a vehicle when a verbal argument began. The victim stated she wanted out of the vehicle but when she went to get out the suspect grabbed her arm ‘roughly’ to try and prevent her from leaving. The victim stated she was eventually able to get out of the vehicle. The suspect confirmed the statement but stated the vehicle was in motion and did not want her leaving a moving vehicle. The victim stated she did not want charges against the suspect. Due to the victim not wanting to pursue charges, the case is closed, noted the report.

Disorderly person, May 19, 12:49 p.m. — Two juvenile students are found by a supervisor in the same stall in a restroom at Pioneer Career & Technology

Center. Both students were issued discipline by the school.

Fire, May 20, 1:16 a.m. — An officer was traveling south on Broadway in the area of Mcbride Field and observed a large fire west of the park near the railroad tracks. The fire was in the back parking lot of a manufactur­ing building on East Smiley Avenue. A large wooden skid that contained truck tires had been set on fire. The Shelby Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguish­ed the fire. Prior to leaving the scene, officers located a piece of plywood laying in the parking lot which was smoldering. The plywood appeared to have been removed from the side of the building which was covering up an old doorway. Also located on and around the plywood was red paint that appeared to have been dumped on the wood. The cap was laying nearby and the bottle was burnt up underneath the board. The red paint was also observed dumped on the tires.

Vandalism, May 20, 9:25 a.m. — A victim contacted police to report two tires on her vehicle had been damaged. When police arrive the vehicle was parked on Morningsid­e Drive in front of the residence. The vehicle had the sidewall of its front and rear driver’s side tires cut with a sharp object. The victim stated she did not suspect anyone and police indicated the incident appears to be random.

Tobacco offense, May 20, 9:27 a.m. — A student was found to be in possession of a vape device at Pioneer Career & Technology Center. The student was issued discipline by the school.

Juvenile complaint, May 20, 11:14 a.m. — Police were detailed to the area of East Whitney Avenue and Oak Street in reference to a toddler that was found to be walking unattended. The toddler was reunited with his mother shortly after arrival.

Criminal mischief, May 20, 8:08 p.m. — Shelby Police were detailed to Second Street between East Whitney Avenue and East Smile Avenue after a caller witnessed a group of juveniles throw eggs at another residence.

Officers located a group of juveniles who admitted to throwing the eggs.

The juveniles were brought back to a Second Street address and contact was made with the homeowner who indicated she did not want to pursue charges but wanted the eggs cleaned up. The juveniles agreed to clean up the mess.

Menacing, May 21, 12:48 p.m.— A complainan­t contacted the police department to report being harassed by a subject as she and juvenile relatives were leaving a business on South Gamble Street. The complainan­t stated she has asked the subject to stay away from her residence in the past. The complainan­t further explained that approximat­ely two years ago there was a physical confrontat­ion between the two. During this incident the complainan­t stated the subject approached her and said “you’re lucky you have your kids with you.” No further comment was made. The complainan­t wanted the incident documented in case of future problems with the subject.
