Drop The Beat Dance Center
Drop The Best Dance Center opened six years ago in Mansfield. They offer competitive and non-competitive dance for children ages 2-18. Head coach Shelby Fife said she is glad to have a space to call their own after having issues with COVID and operating in a church temporarily.
Drop The Beat Dance Center is located at 214 Mansfield Ave. in Shelby. Types of competitive dance offered at the studio is jazz, hiphop, lyrical, and contemporary. Three years ago, before the pandemic, Drop The Beat Dance Center took four teams to the World Dance Championship in New Jersey. The Senior Division (ages 14 to 18) made it into the Final Five and ended up placing Second! Shelby is hoping to make something like this happen again.
She definitely has a passion for children. She said, “I love to see their growth from the beginning to when they graduate.” Shelby danced and twirled baton as a child and has always found these activities rewarding. She also mentioned that having a location in Shelby will help them bring girls in from other towns such as Willard, Norwalk, and Sandusky.
Her mother, Michelle, said, “We’re just excited to give something positive to today’s youth because there are so many negative things out there and so much that the media pulls from all the negative. It’s exciting just to have something for the kids to do and that they’re passionate about. We love it.”
Drop The Beat has one more regional competition and then they head to Nationals in Sandusky at the end of June. The kids get to compete at Kalahari which Shelby said will be a lot of fun.
