Shelby Youth Soccer Association coming this fall

- By Mindy Mckenzie

Children who have an interest in playing soccer have a chance to get ahead of the game by joining the newly formed Shelby Youth Soccer Association.

Scott Krietemeyer of the Shelby Youth Soccer Association explained that SYS is made up of a four person board of directors. He stated everyone is a volunteer and are hard at work to get fields ready for the upcoming season.

“We have officially joined the Appleseed Youth Soccer Association and will be putting teams together for this upcoming fall season,” Krietemeyer stated.

The goal is start out with ages from pre-k through eighth grade. Krietemeyer added this year would be open to girls only for fall SYS Association.

Krietemeyer explained why he felt the need for this new youth program.

“Back in 2019, soccer became a high school sport in Shelby. We started out with just one team and now there is a junior varsity and a varsity team. The need is there for us to be more competitive in our conference. We are getting so much better and the younger that kids can start playing, the better they can become.”

Registration to sign up will kick off on May 24 and go through July 1. In order to sign up, it must be completed on their website www. shelbyyouthsoccer.com. Once on the website, there will be a link available that will allow registration to be completed. The cost to register will be $45.

Krietemeyer explained practices will take place at the old soccer field behind Tucker and begin midto-late August. Games begin September and carry through October. In addition, Krietemeyer said team sizes would vary depending on the number of kids.

No registrations are accepted after July 1. More info can also be found on the Shelby Youth Soccer Facebook page.
