Big Red sends four to State

-

Plymouth sent four boys to the D-III Heath track and field Regionals and advanced all four to this weekend’s State meet at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Leading the charge was the Big Red’s Regional championship winning 400 Meter Relay team. The combination of Caiden Allen, Layne Bushey, Gavin Mcclary and Riley Ramey raced to a winning time of 43.66 seconds in the finals.

Bushey took second place in the High Jump to notch another State berth for PHS. He cleared 6’0” and finished only behind

South Gallia’s Levi Wolford at 6’2”.

The Big Red rounded out their big Regional performance with a pair of at-large State bids in the sprint events. Allen and Ramey took fifth in the 100 and 200 Meter Dash, respectively, but both still moved on with the state’s fastest times that did not finish in the top-four at their Regional.

Allen blazed to an 11.05-second race, which put him fifth behind Kailen Butler of Mechanicsburg (10.97), Adison Reymer of Ashland Crestview (10.96), Gabe Oppong of Tree of Life (10.92) and Regional champion Cole Miller of Paint

Valley (10.87).

Ramey moved on to State in similar fashion in the 200 Meter Dash. His time of 22.47 seconds did not make the top four, but it did represent the best nonautomatic bid time in the state for D-III, punching his ticket.

Many familiar faces from the 100 qualified in the 200. Miller was again Regional champ at 21.93 seconds. Oppong took second (22.33), while Reymer was fourth (22.41). Rock Hill’s Izaak Cox sprinted to third at 22.34 seconds.

Day One of events for D-III State is Friday and begins at 9:30 a.m.
