Humane Society of Richland County seizes over 80 animals from residence

RICHLAND COUNTYOVER Memorial Day weekend, the Humane Society of Richland County had their hands full by seizing at least 80 dogs and some other animals from a residence.

According to the Facebook page of the Humane Society of Richland County, it was stated in a post, “it was an absolutely disgusting, filthy environmen­t.” In addition, there were several exotics removed from the residence as well.

The Humane Society of Richland County reached out to the community for financial help in order to give the animals the best care possible following the removal. According to their Facebook page, as of May 28 over $25,000 had been raised.

The staff expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the community and the board for the Humane Society for their assistance as well as Sgt. Frazier with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Missy Houghton with the Richland County Dog Warden’s Office.

Due to the massive intake of animals, the Humane Society of Richland County stated in one of their Facebook posts that they would be closed for the near future.

The Humane Society of Richland County stated the main need included fosters at this point.

Due to the overwhelmi­ng amount of response from the community in regard to fostering, on Saturday, June 3 the Humane Society of Richland County said in a Facebook post that they were not currently looking for any more fosters at this time.

“So many people have responded for foster help, literally hundreds. We are so grateful. We are not currently looking for any more fosters at this time,” the post stated.

Some of the greatest needs the Humane Society of Richland

County is looking for includes soft dog treats, canned dog food, Frontline for dogs, nitrile or latex gloves, paper towels, newspapers, large totes and bleach.

“We adore this community and thank you so much for your support,” one of their Facebook posts stated.

Some local businesses have joined in helping raising funds for the Humane Society of Richland County. Dairy Land in Mansfield sold pup cups and donated some of the proceeds. City Grille in Mansfield also collected donations on Friday, June 2. Hertz of Mansfield collected and delivered a lot of donations as well.
