Local Dems hear Supreme Court candidates

-

SHELBY – The two Democratic judicial candidates vying in the March primary for the unexpired term on the Ohio Supreme Court spoke at the Shelby Area Democratic Club this past Thursday. Both are currently Ohio Court of Appeals judges. Judge Lisa Forbes serves the Eighth District (Cuyahoga County), and Judge Terri Jamison serves the Tenth District (Franklin County).

“Both candidates are very competent jurists,” club president John Makley stated. “Judge Forbes is running to protect our democracy and the rule of law from any activist agendas. Judge Jamison similarly is running to protect the rule of law and to ensure there’s a balance of power between the legislative and judicial branches.”

Judge Forbes began her career after college, moving to Washington to work on Capitol Hill and then campaigned professionally for Democratic candidates. After graduating from law school, she spent 27 years working for a national law

firm as a trial lawyer litigating complex legal issues. In 2020, she was elected to the Eighth District bench. She has always been involved in her community and currently chairs an organization that provides much needed services to the

Cuyahoga County’s most vulnerable populations.

Judge Jamison began her career in the coal mines of West Virginia. In 1983, she moved to Columbus where she eventually opened her own insurance agency. In 1990, after a contract dispute with the insurance company she represented, Jamison decided to go to law school. After graduating, she worked in the Franklin County Public Defender’s office and opened her own law practice. In 2012, she was elected to a seat on the Franklin County Common Pleas Court – Domestic Relations/ Juvenile Division. While there, she partnered with community organizations to help keep child support offenders out of jail by providing education, job training, and family services. In 2020, Judge Jamison was elected to the Tenth District bench.

“Early voting for the March 19th primary begins on Wednesday, February 20th,” announced Mr. Makley. “Voters can cast their ballots in person at the Board of Elections or by mail.”
