Ohio Senior Olympics taking shape

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Senior Olympics has revealed the tentative schedule for its 2024 State Games, adding new dates for various summer qualifying events.

Details were announced via social media.

The organizati­on, sanctioned by the National Senior Games Associatio­n, oversees the Senior Games movement within Ohio and has shared these updates on their social media platforms, urging seniors to save the dates for a series of competitiv­e events.

According to the Ohio Senior Olympics website, the organizati­on not only sanctions Senior Games competitio­ns across the state but also hosts the annual Ohio Senior Olympic State Games in central Ohio. These games provide an opportunit­y for men and women aged 50 and over to participat­e in multiple sports.

The schedule commences with swimming on June 9 and continues with table tennis on June 3-4. Track and field events, including racewalkin­g, are set for June 14-15.

Cornhole competitio­ns will take place on June 22, followed by badminton on June 29. Cyclists can prepare for their event on August 11.

The schedule also includes pickleball, a favorite among seniors, from Aug. 12-16, and softball is slated for Aug. 10-11. The archery event will round out the season on Aug. 24.

Regional competitio­ns occur throughout the state, leading up to the annual state games. In even-numbered years, such as 2024, the Ohio Senior Olympics State Games serve as a qualifier for the National Senior Games, which take place in odd-numbered years.
