Street paving project for 2024 brought forward at Utilities meeting

With warmer weather on the horizon, the topic of street paving was brought forward during the recent Utilities and Streets Committee meeting that was held last week.

Utilities Director John Ensman discussed the street paving project for 2024 with committee members in his report.

The streets that Ensman presented in his report that are scheduled to be included in the project are as follows: West Smiley Avenue from South Gamble to High School/ymca area, Glenwood Drive from Samatha Dr. to Technology Parkway, East Madison Avenue from Mansfield Ave. to Parkwood Dr., East Gaylord Avenue from Mansfield Ave. to Maxwell Dr., East Maxwell Drive from Mansfield Ave. to the five way intersecti­on, all of Independen­ce Drive and all of Seneca Drive.

Ensman made a note in his report that the Seneca/ Wyandot sanitary sewer project was to be completed before any paving would be done.

As of now, Ensman explained in his report that the estimate paving costs would be about $485,000, with engineerin­g finalizing the anticipate­d costs.

Legislatio­n would be presented to Shelby City Council members during the next regular meeting on Monday, March 4, Ensman stated in his report.

In addition, Ensman went over an update with the reconstruc­tion project of Mickey Road from Mansfield Avenue to South Gamble Street in his report.

Ensman stated in his report the focus was to install storm sewer, underdrain­s, curbs, gutters, drive aprons and pavement. The estimated project costs would be $3,810,000 and the cost would be split 80/20. Ensman stated in his report the estimated contributi­on from the city would be $762,000 and the estimated contributi­on from federal/ state would be $3,048,000.
