Leroy Patton, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at The Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Ashland, OH.

He was born on September 19, 1936, in Morehead, KY to Robert and Florence (Dulin) Patton and moved to Shelby, Ohio shortly thereafter. Leroy owned and operated Patton’s Used Furniture and Moving for over 65 years, and later retired from the Mansfield Correctional Institute after being employed there for 22 years. He was passionate about sales. In fact, he never met a stranger he couldn’t sell something to. He was particularly skilled at finding you something in his store you didn’t know you needed. He spent a lot of time breathing new life into used furniture and appliances and took great pride in his work. If you ever drove down Mohican Street in Shelby, he was a fixture on the front porch in front of his store. When he wasn’t in his store, he was on a moving trip. When he wasn’t on a moving trip, he was talking about his next moving trip, or his past moving trips. He loved to tell stories. One of his favorites was the time he made national news (CNN) after being rescued off the roof of his store by helicopter. He called it “the ride of his life.”

He is survived by his children; Cindy Smith (Mike) of Pittsford, MI, Trina Elkins of Murfreesboro, TN, Robert Patton (Sandra) of Mansfield, and Tamara Farley (Chuck) of Mansfield, his siblings;

Betty Hall of Beallsville, OH, Bob Patton of Shelby, OH, Carol Culler of Shelby, OH and Teena Green of Mansfield, OH and eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita (Lawson) Patton, his son, Mike Patton, his sister, Pauline Branch, and his grandson, Matthew Patton.

Friends may visit the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby, OH, Monday, March 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00AM. Pastor Gary Adkins will officiate with internment held at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
