Electronic­s for Beginners summer camp open to high school students

MANSFIELD – Richland County high school students are invited to apply for a new summer camp Electronic­s for Beginners.

The camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 24 through June 27 at the Mid-ohio Educationa­l Service Center.

Students will learn the basics of Arduino programmin­g while creating innovative designs.

They will learn how hardware and software are coupled together to create new tech with their own supplied kit.

Students will also understand the foundation­al concepts of using a microcontr­oller, a physical programmab­le circuit board, and interactiv­e electronic devices.

They will keep their Arduino kit to share their creations with family and friends.

Richland County students who will be enrolled in grades 9-12 during the 2024-2025 school year and have an interest in Arduino programmin­g are encouraged to apply. No experience is necessary. Applicatio­ns are due by March 29, 2024. There are 15 spots available. The camp is funded through a Microsoft Techspark grant, and participat­ion is free.

The Richland Area Chamber & Economic Developmen­t and the 179th Cyberspace Wing are collaborat­ing to introduce Richland County students to technology-based career pathways.

“This program is designed to inform and inspire students,” Angie Cirone, Mansfieldr­ichland Area Educationa­l Foundation Director, said in a news release. “Each day will be hands-on and interactiv­e. The experience will help students determine if they enjoy programmin­g.”
