Susan M. Spangler

-

Susan M. Spangler, age 75, of Shelby, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2024.

Susan was born December 1, 1948 in Shelby to the late Lawrence “Pat” and Mary C. (Mills) Patterson. A 1967 graduate of Shelby High School, Susan worked at Miami Systems her entire career until its closing. On June 27, 1973, Susan married Thomas L. Spangler and they were married 47 years until his passing on November 26, 2020. A lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church of Shelby, she and her late husband, Tom, had enjoyed volunteering at the Saturday morning breakfasts for many years.

Susan had a passion for reading novels, was an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and enjoyed playing slot machines at the casino. Her story telling was certainly unique- no details were ever missed. And her stubborn nature was most definitely outshined by her deep care for others- their lives, their successes, and their accomplishments. She constantly thought of and worried about others and their well-being.

Susan’s entire world was complete in her precious twin grandbabies. They were her everything. Babysitting time with them was passed with coloring with Sloane and playing with trucks with Jack. And she enjoyed every minute of it. She was certainly a very proud Nana. Susan is survived by her daughter and son-inlaw: Jennifer and Nick Snyder of Delaware; her beloved grandchildren: Jack Thomas and Sloane Michele; brother: Larry

Patterson of Denver, CO; and brother-in-law and his partner: Richard Spangler and Thomas Reiderman of Akron.

Susan and Tom suffered loss in 1979 when their 2-year-old daughter, Mary Michele, passed. For the rest of her life, Susan was changed. Although Susan’s unexpected death leaves a void here on this earth, there is no doubt that there was certainly a joyous moment this past Tuesday morning, when Susan could hold her precious Michele again with Tom.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 3-4 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will immediately follow at 4 pm. Her cousin, Rev. Lester Vnasdale, will officiate the services. Burial will be private in Oakland Cemetery the following morning. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Humane Society (adoptourstrays.com/support-us/).

Online condolences may be left on Susan’s obituary on the funeral home’s website (Penwellturner. com) or their Facebook page (Facebook.com/ Penwellfuneral).
