Vero answers questions at Sharon Twp.

Richland County Commission­er Tony Vero stopped by Sharon Township to answer questions during their regular meeting held on February 5.

In the approved meeting minutes, Vero explained he had planned on visiting earlier, but would be happy to answer any questions anyone might have for him.

Chairman/trustee Adam Schroeder asked about solar zoning in the county. Vero replied that they had not adopted any yet and that Richland County Commission­er Darrell Banks would be the current county contact, the meeting minutes stated.

Trustee Corey Keller inquired about the Solar Eclipse Plan. Vero said the county was planning on an influx of visitors. As of yet, he had not seen an uptick according to hotels and fairground­s. Vero added the county would work remotely that day, the meeting minutes said.

Fiscal Officer Kimberly Stover asked about future plans in Richland County. Vero discussed the expansion of broadband. Vero explained this $5 million dollar plan would create a dedicated fiber line around Route 30 and a local POP. This would be important for residents and the Cyber Wing (National Guard), the meeting minutes stated.

Following, Vero generously offered his mobile number and his availabili­ty for assistance if the township needs it, the meeting minutes said.

Also, during public comment, resident James Metzger expressed concerns about cutting to one meeting a month for Sharon Township for paychecks and the lack of time clock for the road superinten­dent. Stover explained the adopted ACH procedure for payroll and the Toggletrac­k app used for tracking, the meeting minutes stated.

In special reports, Zoning Inspector Greg Wasilewski explained he and Vicechairm­an/trustee Kevin

Schumacher attended the RCSW Stormwater Zoning Meeting where it provided informatio­n about issuing permits and resources. Schumacher brought up that zoning permit charges for Sharon Township had not changed since 1999. Wasilewski was going to gather rates from surroundin­g townships and propose new rates at the next meeting, the meeting minutes stated.

Road Superinten­dent Tyler Grove explained in his report some of the tasks he accomplish­ed included checking roads for snow, had 6 loads of salt delivered, washed 96 and backhoe, cleaned rust on both plow trucks to prep for paint and fluid film, greased backhoe, made a list of parts, supplies and to do list, plowed and salted roads, greased Western Star truck, worked on a few grease fitting, had fire extinguish­ers inspected, replaced meeting notice sign at garage, installed new transmissi­on lines on Western Star, sprayed fluid film on bottom of 96 truck, picked up parts at Great Lakes Truck Center, picked up supplies at Napa and ordered parts at Great Lakes Truck Center, pushed a load of #9s in the salt shed, scheduled fire extinguish­er inspection, ordered parts, replaced wiper blades on trucks, replaced transmissi­on fluid in Western Star and secured new lines, picked up more fluid film at Napa and returned wrong size exhaust clamps, washed trucks and backhoe, picked up dead deer on Hummel road, the meeting minutes stated.

During the reports of trustees, Schumacher went over his report and stated he contacted Dexter about the couplers for the new mower for around $6800 and $7700 for a plow without a blade. Burkhart’s Farm Center was not interested in giving a quote. Schumacher also worked with Grove to plow snow and Schumacher ordered salt & grit. The building is full and ready, the meeting

minutes said.

In Keller’s report, he stated he planned on attending OTA sunshine training but the class was full, talked about a BWC safety grant and may pursue applying, said he called the bank about the mentioned credit card and was unable to cancel. He followed up with many questions as a new board member, the meeting minutes stated.

Keller asked Schroeder why he doesn’t sign the minutes. Schroeder informed him that after they are approved, the chairman and preparer sign. He then asked Stover why the minutes were not read aloud. Stover replied that she emails them ahead and prints them off and will not be reading them. Next, he inquired about all trustees having township email

addresses. Stover informed him that ones were created for the fiscal officer and employees only, the meeting minutes said.

Following, the conversati­on moved to snow plowing where other questions were asked, the meeting minutes explained. Some of the questions asked included if there was a formal agreement with another township for help and the meeting minutes stated no. Another question asked was how trustees would help the road superinten­dent and the meeting minutes stated by rotation, text, who can help when.

Next, Keller spoke to Schumacher asking about completing a Pretrip before plowing and where these documents were kept. Grove explained that the broken light went out enroute and told Keller the document’s location. Lastly, Keller focused in on the road superinten­dent.

He asked about garage door openers, but Grove was pretty sure they were currently in equipment and would verify. Then he asked about his working hours (6-2:30), if he could have access to his Toggle Track, telling him that the brakes needed adjusting on the Western Star and demanded a list of equipment with make, model and hours from Grove, the meeting minutes stated.

In Schroder’s report, he reported that he plowed snow, completed fraud prevention paperwork and picked up trash. Schroeder contacted Owen Niese who was glad to renew his term on the zoning commission board and Schroeder received calls from residents that were happy about the road conditions in the township, the meeting minutes stated.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
