Warrant service, March 11, 11:12 p.m., Walnut, At the time and date stated, the Shelby Police Department received informatio­n that the subject was residing at E. Main St. The subject was known to this department to have an active warrant for his arrest from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office for a Probation Violation. Officers arrived at the stated address and located the subject in bed. The subject was taken into custody without incident. The subject was relayed into the custody of the Sheriff’s Office where he would be transporte­d to the Richland County Jail.

Criminal mischief, March 12, 2:09 p.m., Ryan, Police were detailed to the main office about a damaged sweatshirt. Upon arrival, police contacted the victim, and she stated that she and her boyfriend had recently broken up. The victim stated they exchanged property through a mutual friend, and her sweatshirt was damaged when she received it. The victim said the sweatshirt had been written on and cat litter inside the bag. The victim said that she suspected the boyfriend or his new girlfriend of vandalizin­g her sweatshirt. Police then contacted the ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend, and they both denied damaging the sweatshirt. The ex boyfriend also added that when he received his clothing back from the victim, it was tarred and feathered. After speaking with everyone involved, it appeared evident that both parties were participat­ing in damaging each other’s clothing. The ex-boyfriend and new girlfriend were informed that they would not have contact with the victim.

Warrant service, March 12, 11:19 p.m., City Limits, At the time and date stated, the Bellville Police Department notified the department that they had stopped the listed offender on a Traffic

Stop in their jurisdicti­on. The offender had an active warrant for a Zoning Violation from the department. Police were dispatched to the area of the traffic stop (SR 71 and 97) where they took the offender into custody without issue. The offender was transporte­d back to the Shelby Police Department. Upon arrival, the offender was able to post the bond of $230.00 and subsequent­ly released.

Crash hit/skip, March 12, 10:24 a.m., Broadway/ Whitney, An employee

of the Shelby City Street Department called and reported a truck had struck another vehicle at the Broadway/whitney intersecti­on and fled from the scene. The witness reported the truck had front end damage and was seen driving in alleys between Second St and Broadway St. Police arrived at the scene of the accident and made contact with the driver of Unit 2. The Shelby Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and did a medical evaluation on the driver. Upon searching the area for the suspect vehicle police located a vehicle that matched the descriptio­n parked behind Broadway

St near the alley. The truck was unoccupied and had front end damage to the truck that aligned to the damage of Unit #2. Police obtained photograph­s of the truck and attempted to make contact with the residence at both Broadway addresses without success. The neighbor at Broadway St approached police and stated they witnessed a male, approximat­ely 20-30 years old exit the vehicle and go into the residence. Police then went to the door and ordered the occupant(s) to come to the door. A female answered the door and explained she was the girlfriend of the male driver. The female stated the male was not home. Upon informing the female of the witness’ observatio­n she admitted she lied and the suspect was home. Police then entered the residence and took the suspect into custody. Police immediatel­y observed the suspect appeared under the influence. The suspect admitted to driving and leaving the scene. The suspect was secured with handcuffs and transporte­d to the police department where police conducted SFST’S. The suspect performed poorly on the tests and alcohol was not suspected. A DRE was utilized and it was determined the suspect was under the influence of drugs. A urine sample was obtained and the suspect was issued a citation for OVI, ACDA, No Drivers License and Stopping after an Accident. The suspect was given a court date in SMC. The suspect was released into the custody of his father.

Missing juvenile, March 12, 4:46 p.m., W. Main, A complainan­t

contacted the department in regards to a juvenile that had left a care center. Police arrived at W Main St and spoke with the complainan­t and obtained a photograph and clothing descriptio­n of the juvenile. Police began to search at nearby basketball courts and parks but was unable to locate the juvenile. Dispatch entered the juvenile into LEADS as a missing juvenile. Later on, the care center contacted the department to advise that the juvenile had returned home. Police then went to the about address and verified that the juvenile had returned.

Drug offense, March 13, 11:30 a.m., Ryan,

Police were detailed to the main office in reference to a student possessing a THC vape cartridge. After a short investigat­ion the suspect was issued a summons for drug parapherna­lia and will appear in RCJC when notified.

Dead body, March 13, 6:14 a.m., E. State, At the time and date stated the Shelby Police and Fire Department­s responded to the listed address for a non-responsive elderly female.

Warrant service, March 13, 8:21 a.m., Mack, On

the listed date and time the offender arrived at Shelby Municipal Court to turn himself in on an arrest warrant from SMC for FTA/SHOW CAUSE for Failure to Reinstate from 2018. The offender had been in prison for an extended amount of time and recently been released. The offender was provided with a copy of his warrant and forwarded to court.

Mickey, Officers were dispatched to the listed location for a report of dog bites . Officers met with both the owner of the suspected aggressive dog and the owner of the injured dog. Police observed pictures of the injured dog who had cuts and laceration­s to its legs. This report will be forwarded to the Richland County Dog Warden.

8:00 p.m.,

Property damage, March 14, 11:09 a.m., S. Gamble, Officers were

dispatched for a criminal mischief complaint. The caller reported someone had damaged their grass and objects were broken onto the driveway. Officers met with maintenanc­e personnel who showed me the area affected. Photos were taken of the damage and a statement obtained from staff.

Man w/gun, March 14, 2:41 a.m., Smiley/ Oak, The Shelby Police

Department responded to the area of Oak St. and Whitney in reference to a Man with a Gun complaint. Dispatch advised the caller disconnect­ed and refused to provide caller informatio­n. Upon arrival, officers located 2 groups of men in the area. Further investigat­ion determined that all 5 individual­s were involved in the complaint, however neither group wished to cooperate with the investigat­ion. Conflictin­g statements and lack of caller informatio­n forced the case to be closed.

Warrant service, March 17, 8:09 p.m., Mansfield Ave., Officer was dispatched

to a business in response to a traffic stop by a Richland County Deputy. The subject had an income tax warrant out of Shelby Municipal Court. Dispatch informed police of the situation, and upon their arrival, police met with the deputy and subject. Police confirmed subject’s residence and phone number and told him of his court appearance at Shelby Municipal Court.

Traffic stop, March 17, 12:19 a.m., Mansfield/ Monroe, On the listed

date and time while on patrol officers observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation . Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and it was found that the driver was currently suspended under a court suspension. The driver was issued a citation for Operation under suspension other than FRA or OVI. The driver was given a court date. The driver was informed that this is a mandatory appearance. The driver was then picked up by a valid driver.

Warrant service, March 18, 9:10 a.m., Mack, An

individual with a warrant arrived at the Shelby Police Department to turn herself in. She was arrested and served copies of her warrants and was handed over to the court where she was present before the Judge. She later left the station at the conclusion of court. The warrants on complaint were for Speed, O.V.I., and O.V.I. subsection.
