Shelby track teams score successes against Clear Fork

- By Marc Hartz

Shelby girls and boys track competed in a dual meet against Clear Fork on Tuesday evening.

The host Lady Whippets defeated Clear Fork 65-53, while the boys were defeated 81-47.

Princess Timko was a double winner for the girls, winning the 100 and 200 meters.

Jillian Curry won the 800 meters. Anna Will, Emma Mahek and Rees Lewis swept the 1600 meters, placing first, second and third. Emma Montgomery, Kaylin Mahon and Courtney Stiving swept the 3200 meters. Madison Henkle won the long jump.

Zane Robinson won the 800 meters for the boys. The boys fared well in the throwing events. Ferron Pena won the shot put, Graham Yeager was second. The boys swept the discus event, Yeager won, followed by Pena and Preston Waldruff.

Despite the loss, boys coach Chris Zuercher was upbeat about his team’s performance, “This meet was nice as we put a lot of different kids in different areas. We ran our big distance kids in some relays and had them do a workout,” he said.

“The throwers really are doing well right now,” he said “They look to be in mid-season form. The distance guys were able to be in some battles. We came up just a bit short in the 1600 and 3200 with some of our guys. However, it was good to get younger guys chances to step up.”
