Carolyn Sue Bricker, age 90, of Shelby passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 2, 2024 at her home. Her death came just five days shy of her 91st birthday.

Born April 7, 1933 in Mansfield to Ralph and Clara (Schafer) Dune, Carolyn graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1951. Immediately following, she began working at Empire Detroit Steel in Mansfield and, through mutual connections, was set up on a blind date with Russell Bricker. They later married on February 28, 1953. Together, they farmedsomething which was fulfilling to Carolyn especially becoming a farmer’s wife from being a city girl. From driving tractors to anything necessary, she helped run their farming operation. It was her life and she genuinely loved it. Until the very end she enjoyed taking her golf cart around the farm to keep an eye on operations.

Additionally, Carolyn was the Secretary at the First Lutheran Church in

Shelby- a job she adored and was called to do. She was an active member of the church and faithfully attended weekly as long as she was physically able. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandsons, and enjoyed all the family pets and critters which, most certainly, were her grand “fur-babies”.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters: Sallie (Bob) Barley of the Lucas area, Sandra Bricker of Shelby, and Sharon (Ralph) Coffey of Shelby; grandchildren: Kevin Ernst, David (Molly) Ernst, Nathan

Ernst, Adam (Lyndsay) Payne, and Kelsey Payne; great grandsons: Tanner, Bentley, William, and Levi; special nephew: Billy Zehner; special friend: Joy Hunt; and dear neighbors: Jim and Linda Sutter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russ, on March 27, 2000; great grandson: Joshua; in-laws: Mabel and Gus Londot; and siblings: Eddie, Paul, Ruth, Martha, and Shirley.

Per Carolyn’s request, graveside services and burial were private at Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Care for Carolyn and her family is being provided by the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875. Condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website (Penwellturner. com) or their Facebook page (Facebook.com/ Penwellfuneral).
