Ohio jobless claims show decline in latest report

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) provided updated data on unemployme­nt claims filed in Ohio the week of March 31-April 6, 2024.

These statistics were shared with the U.S. Department of Labor, the state reported via news release.

Ohioans filed 5,691 initial unemployme­nt claims last week, which was 519 fewer than the previous week.

Approximat­ely 1,062 of those have been flagged for more stringent identity verificati­on, to ensure they are not fraudulent.

Ohioans filed 48,157 continued unemployme­nt claims last week, which was 1,042 fewer than the previous week. The total number of claims filed from March 31-April 6, 2024, was 53,848. O

hio’s unemployme­nt rate in February was 3.7%. The national unemployme­nt rate in February was 3.9%.

Ohio’s labor force participat­ion rate in February was 61.8%.

The national labor force participat­ion rate in February was 62.5%. ODJFS works in partnershi­p with local workforce developmen­t boards and local staff to provide employment and training services at 88 Ohiomeansj­obs Centers throughout the state.

The state urges individual­s to file their unemployme­nt claims online, if possible, at unemployme­nt.ohio.gov.
