Shelby's Madison Henkel sets record at Mehok Relays
Shelby boys and girls high school track competed at the Mehok Relays at Malabar junior high Saturday afternoon.
Madison Henkel set a meet record in the long jump, with a leap of 18-09.5. This is also a Shelby women’s record.
Marshall Moore was a repeat winner in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.13
Princess Timko finished third in the 100 meters (12.79), which puts her fifth all-time in Shelby women’s history. Timko also finished fourth in the 200 (26.96).
Freshman Anna Will was third in the 3200 (11:58.87) which puts her fourth all time in Shelby.
Alyssa Niese finished third in the high jump (4-10.0).
Graham Yeager finished third in the discus (161-07), that throw is 4th in Shelby history.
Luke Lesseuer was third in the 3200 (6:56.14).
Shelby ladies coach, Patience Lewis spoke about her team’s performance.
“We enjoyed the sun-*
shine at Mehock Saturday. Madison Henkel improved her personal best long jump by a foot,” Lewis said. “She is the only 18’ long jumper in SHS women’s track history. Last year she fouled all her attempts and didn’t make it to the finals. Freshman, Anna Will had an outstanding 3200 placing her as #4 on the 3200 all-time top ten for Shelby.”

SHS tracksters who have gone sub 12 in the 3200,” Lewis said. “Princes Timko also had a breakthrough meet joining the all-time top ten 100 list at #5. I’m very proud of the whole team’s performance on Saturday.”
Men’s coach, Chris Zuercher added: “Mehock, while not the meet it used to be, it is still a very competitive meet. We have a few guys banged up so we
were very selective on the events that we entered.
“The discus was a great event for us,” Zuercher said. “Ferron (Pena) and Graham are coming into their own. Marshall and Indy looked solid in the 800. Marshall is now back to back 800 champion at Mehock. Luke Lesseuer ran very solid in the 3200. The competition was extremely tough.”
