Richland County celebrates Earth Day this weekend

Richland County will be getting into the spirit of celebratin­g Earth Day with some events taking place over the weekend.

Earth Day is occurring on Monday, April 22 and with that there will be some ways for residents to recognize it. On Saturday, April 20 there will be a Charles Mill Earth Day Celebratio­n. During this, there will be many activities for those who attend to take part in throughout the day. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and carry on until 7 p.m.

From 1-3 p.m. there will be a tree giveaway at the Messerly Recreation Center. The trees that will be available are ready to be planted as soon as they are taken home. The trees include red oak, white oak and pine saplings. From 1-2 p.m. there will be a traveling kids craft.

Taking place from 2-4 p.m., the Earth Day clean up will happen. Those who plan on taking part can go to the Messerly Recreation

Center and get trash bags and gloves to pick up any trash in the park and on the trails. When the bags are brought back, individual­s will receive a coupon for a free night of daily camping.

At 6 p.m., a camper get together dinner will be held and at 7 p.m. there will be a kids and adult bingo.

On Sunday, April 21 at Burton Park in Mansfield the Mansfield Arts and Culture Sector will be holding an Earth Day Celebratio­n. This event is partnered with the city of Mansfield Parks Department, Mechanics Bank, Home Depot and Two Cousins Pizza to work on giving the park a makeover.

Throughout the day, litter will be picked up, planting of flowers, bush and painting will occur.

There will be food available and birdhouse projects for children to work on, along with prizes.
