Discussions took place regarding dump truck legislation during the most recent Utilities and Streets Committee meeting.

Director of Utilities John Ensman went over his report with committee members that included providing updated information on dump truck legislation. Ensman shared in his report that 2024 appropriations were budgeted for a new dump truck, dump body, and equipment for the Service Department. There was $270,000 appropriated, Ensman said in his report.

Ensman explained in his report the dump truck replacement was in the equipment succession plan and would be replacing a 1998 Frieghtliner dump truck. This dump truck had the equivalent of 260,000 engine miles. Ensman explained in his report it received a new bed in 2007 and would still remain with the department for the time being.

Moving on with the presentation, Ensman stated in his report that legislation would be presented to council members surrounding the topic during their most recent council meeting that was held on April 15. Ensman stated in his report that a 2025 Freightliner Cab and chassis was being purchased from Cleveland Freightliner Inc. The purchase was made with a competitive bidding process and did meet the bidding requirements. The purchase price was listed at $112,453, Ensman explained in his report.

Also, there would be a 2024 SA Snow and Ice Equipment Package for the dump body, snow plow and salt spreader. This was being purchased from Henderson Products, Inc. and the equipment package was being purchased through the National Purchasing Power Government Program. The purchase price was $109,505, Ensman stated in his report.

The total purchase for everything was listed at $221,958. This was $48,000 under budget, Ensman said in his report.
