SHS Interact Club stays busy, prepares to host cancer awareness event

- Submitted

The Interact Club at Shelby High School has been busy this year. They started off their academic year hosting the Halloween Parade. This was very successful with 23 entries this year.

Then they turned their attention to the Diaper Pantry here in town. Not only did they hold a fundraiser at school and purchase diapers for the pantry, but they helped with distribution for two months, as well. The Interact Club, also, worked with the Angel Tree Program again this year. Members got together and purchased Christmas gifts for two children.

Following the holidays, the club purchased material and made blankets for local youth in need. They made sure each listed individual had a new blanket. Next on the calendar for the Interact Club is a Cancer Awareness Event.

They will be raffling off baskets at the home 9/10 track invitational and boys baseball game this Saturday, April 27th. You can expect baskets from approximately 20 local businesses. Some of the businesses you can expect to see participating are Ace Hardware, Kuttin Korner, Marigold Bakery, Local Roots, Nicole and Co., Marvin Memorial Library, The Well Coffee Shop, Healing Hands Massage Therapy, Dominos, Melody Within, Weber’s, The Q, Sarah’s Pooch Parlor, Black Fork Brewing and a few others.

Come out Saturday to root on your favorite Shelby athlete and have the opportunity to win a variety of different baskets or gift cards. The proceeds from this event will go towards the Fred Cooke Memorial Fund which awards scholarships to seniors entering the teaching field and helps out our local community.
