CROP Walk for Hunger taking place on Sunday

- By Submitted

Come rain or shine, area walkers/runners are invited to participate in the 55th annual CROP Walk for Hunger held on Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 18 South Gamble St.

Organized locally by the Shelby Council of Churches, our local edition is among over 200 sites internationally hosting interfaith community walks to raise funds and heighten awareness about hunger issues around the world.

Sponsored and promoted by Church World Service, the walks build around this year’s theme of ‘Building Global Resilience’. A sizable portion of the funds raised go to local efforts to help fight hunger. The FISH organization in Shelby has been the recipient of funds locally the past few years.

The walk starts at First United Methodist Church (across from Dollar General) and will proceed south to Tucker Ave., east to Park Ave., then around Reservoir 2 and back past by police and fire stations and new park downtown back to church. Walkers can do shorter portions or even in church if necessary.

If you would like to sponsor or donate or even just join in the walk, ALL are welcomed and appreciated. There will be donation boxes on site and water and fruit along the course as well.

Local coordinator Bob Delauder can be contacted for information or questions/donations at 419-6315659 (30 Jayne Ave.).
