O-I Glass appoints new chief executive officer
PERRYSBURG – O-I Glass, Inc., a leading producer of glass bottles and jars globally, has announced the appointment of Gordon J. Hardie as its new chief executive officer, effective May 15, or upon receipt of his work-authorized U.S. visa, the company announced.
Hardie, a current member of the board since 2015, brings more than 35 years of global leadership and innovation expertise, a news release said. He succeeds Andres Lopez, who is retiring.
“Gordon’s appointment as CEO follows a comprehensive search consistent with our long-term succession planning process,” said John H. Walker, independent board chairman. “Gordon is a proven leader with extensive experience in the packaged food and beverage industry, bringing valuable customer perspective.”
Hardie’s background includes a significant role as president of food and ingredients at Bunge Limited, where he was noted for his
strategic leadership and performance enhancement.
“I am honored to take on the role of O-I’S next CEO at this exciting
time in the company’s history,” said Hardie. “I know firsthand that our culture of innovation and the tremendous talent at every level of the organization is what differentiates O-I as an industry leader.”
Alongside the CEO transition, O-I Glass also announced upcoming changes to its board. Walker will retire at the company’s 2024 annual meeting of stockholders on May 15.
“As part of our commitment to strong governance practices, including active board refreshment, we are pleased to nominate Eric and Cheri for election to the O-I Board,” Walker added in the announcement earlier this month.
The company, headquartered in Perrysburg near Toledo, employs around 23,000 employees and operations across 19 countries. O-I Glass emphasizes innovation and sustainability in its operations, reflecting its passion for glass as a pure, recyclable material. The firm reported revenues of $7.1 billion in 2023.
