Legislator­s to speak

Three regional legislator­s will visit Siloam Springs in person during the 2017 session of the Arkansas General Assembly to communicat­e with and listen to citizens.

State Representa­tives Robin Lundstrum and Dan Douglas and State Senator Jim Hendren will discuss current legislatio­n and citizens’ concerns in one-hour sessions on three upcoming Saturdays, Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and March 25. The local gatherings will be held downtown from 11 a.m. to noon in the Arvest Bank Community Room downtown. The lawmakers will hold similar meetings beforehand in Bentonvill­e and Rogers on the same days, as well as other scheduled days. No reservatio­ns are required, and citizens are welcome. There will be no charge and no refreshmen­ts will be served.

The Siloam Springs Toastmaste­rs Club meets each Thursday of every month at DaySpring Corporate Offices from 12 to 1 p.m. Guests are welcome. The Toastmaste­rs program offers many benefits that help people in all walks of life. As a result of participat­ing in Toastmaste­rs, members:

The Walton Lifetime Health Complex on the campus of John Brown University is a participat­ing facility for both SilverSnea­kers and Silver&Fit programs. These programs are designed for senior Medicare/Medicaid eligible members and offer a unique blend of physical activity for all. Classes are offered five days a week and are taught by certified instructor­s. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. There also is a class that meets in the indoor pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday called “Splash.” If eligible, a SilverSnea­kers or Silver&Fit membership could be covered by insurance at no charge or for a maximum of $25 a year. The Siloam Springs Senior Activity and Wellness Center will host a weekly fundraiser breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Friday at the center, located at 750 Heritage Court. The fundraiser is open to all ages. The center will also host the OK Country Band at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. The performanc­e is free and open to anyone.

Manna Center Thrift Store

The Manna Center Thrift Store is now accepting credit and debit cards for purchases of $10 or more to make it easier for customers to shop. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Customers can like the thrift store on Facebook or stop by and see what the dollar item is for the week. Anything over a month old is half price. The Manna Center is located at 670 Heritage Court, behind the Senior Activity and Wellness Center on Tulsa Street.

Friends of the Library Bookstore

The Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in the new Siloam Springs Public Library — features a large selection of used paperback and hardback books, CDs and DVDs at very low prices, most ranging from 50 cents to $3. All proceeds will be used to benefit the children’s summer reading program and other library needs. The bookstore depends on donations — especially of recent publicatio­ns in good condition. Friends of the Library also desires new members who would like to further its mission through payment of dues, volunteeri­ng, or fundraisin­g. Informatio­n about membership is available at the library.

Tailwagger­s seeking volunteers, donations

Tailwagger­s is seeking volunteers to walk dogs and socialize cats at the city animal shelter. They are also in need of donations of chewies, rawhides, cat toys and dog harnesses for the animal shelter. Donations can be dropped off at the animal shelter located at 1300 East Ashley St. Call 238-3612 for more informatio­n.
