Dogwood book sale
Friends of the Library Bookstore — located in Siloam Springs Public Library — will hold the annual Dogwood Sale beginning Thursday, April 27 from noon to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Saturday, all books in the sale area will be buy one, get one free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Sunday will be a “Bag-O-Books” day with all sale books offered at $1 for a bag of paperbacks, $2 for a bag of hardbacks. The sale will include a huge variety of books including a selection of vintage or rare books deeply discounted in relation to suggested online prices. Proceeds from the Dogwood Sale or at the Bookstore are always used to benefit the library, especially children’s summer reading programs.
Pieology Pizzeria will host a fundraiser for Dustin’s Dream from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 22. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Dustin’s Dream. The new pizza company is located at 2998 E. U.S. Highway 412 in Siloam Springs.
Siloam Springs High School students are partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to hold a fundraising walk on May 6 at the middle school track. Registration begins at 9 a.m.; the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. The event will include a silent auction and donations are welcome.
Siloam Springs Republican Women
The Siloam Springs Republican Women will meet April 24 at 318 E. Main St. Coffee time is 6:30 p.m. and the program is at 7 p.m. Special speaker will be Octavio Sanchez, who will give a program on Immigration. Sanchez, a database administrator for Walmart in Bentonville, is an immigrant from Mexico where he worked for Walmart and also was a professor at the National University. Currently he also serves as city council member in Bentonville. He is also on the Platform Review Committee with Focus on Immigration for the Republican Party of Arkansas. This is an open meeting and Sanchez will welcome questions regarding immigration. For information call: 479-524-3461.
Kindergarten Registration
Northside Elementary opened kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018 school year on April 10. Children must be five years old on or before Aug. 1, 2017 to register. All registration will be completed online and can be accessed by going to the Northside homepage, http://northside.siloamschools.com/. Families that wish to register onsite at Northside Elementary may do so from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. April 28.
For registration to be complete parents should complete the online registration form at https://goo.gl/forms/DQ6fqzeJDO8aqhdg2 and bring the following documents to Northside Elementary: proof of birth - a list of qualifying documents can be found at siloamschools.com under the New Student Enrollment link; proof of residency; immunization record; social security card - parent may request a number assigned by the district if preferred; and a current physical - a physical examination is required within 90 days of enrollment. The items can be brought to the Northside office between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration should be complete by May 12, 2017.
Rainbow Girls Yard Sale
Siloam Springs Rainbow Girls # 11 will hold a yard sale on the lawn of the Siloam Springs Masonic Lodge from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 22. The sale will serve as a fundraiser for the club and will feature gently used items.
Shred Day
In celebration of Earth Day, Grand Savings Bank is hosting a free Shred Day at its Siloam Springs location, located at 1660 W. U.S. Hwy 412 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 21. Consumers and business owners can securely destroy sensitive paper documents quickly, efficiently and free of charge. One hundred percent of the paper collected will be turned into pulp and recycled to make future paper goods after being securely destroyed. Participants may pull through the bank’s parking lot, drop off their documents with the mobile shredding truck and be on their way in a matter of minutes.
There isn’t a limit to the amount of documents participants are able to shred. However, if an individual or small business has an extremely large amount, please call the bank to set up a time. Any type of paper document is welcomed. No cardboard or other media type is accepted. Staples, rubber bands, folders and paper clips do not need to be removed before shredding. Team Roping Benefit
A team roping benefit and auction to help pay the funeral and medical expenses for Angela Antrobus of Kansas, Okla., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Siloam Springs Rodeo Arena. Antrobus died unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism on Feb. 22. She was the loving mother of two sons, one of which died on Jan. 26. Any and all donations are appreciated to help ease the financial burden, especially for her surviving son. For more information, call 479-2386843.
Ordinary Saints Exhibit
The art exhibit “Ordinary Saints” will be on display in John Brown University’s Windgate Visual Arts West Gallery through May 2. The exhibit features the work of artist Bruce Herman. Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery will be closed April 14-16 for the Easter holiday.
50th reunion

Roast-and-toast for Cheek
A retirement roast-and-toast dinner celebration for longtime Siloam Springs High School volleyball coach Rose Cheek will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 29, in the high school cafeteria, located at 700 W.
