A Rogers, Ark., woman made a $1,000 donation to five members of the Siloam Springs Fire Department, who rescued her after a vehicular accident.

On June 7, Sharon Morrison, 74, a Prairie Creek resident, was rescued by Siloam Springs EMTs after a car she was driving nine miles east of Siloam Springs on Highway 68 left the highway. The EMTs had to use the Hurst “Jaws of Life” to free Morrison from the vehicle in which she was pinned. She was then transferred to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital.

Morrison thanked the five rescuers — O.C. Branson, Evan Vohs, Bill Chism, Lowell Butler and Richard Dozier — in a letter received by Branson June 26. Enclosed with the letter was a check for $1,000, made out to the five men.

The money was used to benefit the Siloam Springs Fire Department.

The Siloam Springs Flyers Swim Team hosted 306 swimmers ages 5 to 18 representing 11 teams from Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma during the Father’s Day weekend at the Family Aquatic Center in Siloam Springs.

Despite threatening weather, the Flyers kept at home first-place trophies in both the A and B divisions. Also, four of the top 20 swimmers in the meet were Flyers.

Three Flyers swimmers took high-point trophies for the top performance in their age groups. They were: 11-12 Boys — Karl Anderson, 13-14 Girls — Leah Anderson and 15-18 Boys — Ellis Miller.

As a fundraising effort, parents and swimmers from all teams competed in the first annual “Chucka-Duck” contest (tossing plastic ducks at a target in the pool) and three winners took home nearly $250 in prize money between them.
