10 Years Ago From the HeraldLeader in 2008 When John Brown University graduate Jacob Roebuck decided to produce a film about the meaning of love, he found the fictitious lonely American southwest locale Coyote County was the perfect stage for his humorous tale. The resulting film, the romantic comedy “Coyote County Loser,” was scheduled for pre-release sneak-peek on Jan. 8 at Siloam Springs 6 Theater.

“‘Coyote County Loser’ is about the true nature of love,” said Jacob Roebuck. It’s a contest between desert radio hosts trying to prove they know the most about love — and the antics that ensue.”

Roebuck tapped JBU graduates Rob Bethke, a longtime friend, and Roebuck’s twin brother, Lucas Roebuck, to help devise a story based on a one-act play the brothers wrote seven years earlier. Bethke served as co-producer for the film, and Lucas was a screenwriter.

Lucas Roebuck is a former managing editor for the Siloam Springs HeraldLeader.

Traci Rae Letellier, also a JBU graduate, wrote and performed the original song, “Wish You Were Here” for the movie. Other JBU graduates involved in the film include: Danielle Vogus, production assistant and Laura Roebuck, assistant location manager.
