Siloam Springs Writers

The Siloam Springs Writers Guild will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday evening at the First Baptist Church, 2000 Dawn Hill Road. Laura Macfarlan will speak to the group on “Writing The Word.” Please enter on the west side of the building. Monthly assignment­s are: Prose - “Autumn” or “End of Summer” up to 750 words and Poetry “Writer’s Choice” up to 36 lines. Entries must be submitted to sswgsisp@gmail.com between Aug. 20 and Sept. 1. Senior Center

The Siloam Springs Senior Activity and Wellness Center is hosting a community retirement party for longtime director Kathy Patterson at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Center, located at 750 Heritage Court.

Bridge lessons

Free bridge lessons at the Siloam Springs Senior Activity & Wellness Center will begin the week of Sept. 9 and continue through Dec. 1. Participan­ts do not need to be a senior to join. Sliced and Diced

The Garden in Siloam Springs is hosting Sliced and Diced from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Memorial Park Amphitheat­re. Free registrati­on is available at slicedandd­iced.eventbrite. com. Participan­ts should bring a blanket or chair and friends.

Republican Women

The Siloam Springs Republican Women will host the Benton County Republican Committee on Aug. 27 at the Compass Fellowship Building, located at 318 Main St. Refreshmen­ts will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the guest speaker Tim Griffin, Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas. Street closure

Siloam Springs Street Department will close Lake Francis Drive from the railroad tracks east to Lincoln Street through the end of the year. This is a complete road rebuild and the street will not be open to traffic.

Membership Drive

The Siloam Springs Museum is starting its membership drive. Membership can be renewed either online at siloamspri­ngsmuseum.com/membership or by stopping by the museum at 112 N. Maxwell to renew membership or become a new member. Membership levels range from $15 to $500.

Bookstore at the Library

The Bookstore at the Siloam Springs Library has wonderful bargains on a great assortment of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and audio books — most priced under $2. The bookstore is currently featuring new arrivals in the Children and Teen section. Signs in the library will guide patrons to the bookstore area, which is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Donations of used books and electronic media in good condition are always welcomed, especially materials of interest to children and teens. The bookstore is operated by Friends of the Library and all proceeds are used to benefit the library. Everyone is welcome to come and shop in this little hidden corner of Siloam Springs. Friends of the Library seeks and welcomes new members who desire to join their organizati­on and further its mission by volunteeri­ng or fundraisin­g. Siloam Springs Writers Guild Poetry Contest
