Expect the unexpected. That was the lead of the game story in Siloam Sunday on Oct. 17, just two days after Siloam Springs pulled a stunning upset at previously unbeaten and fourth-ranked Greenbrier.

There were all kinds of reasons why Siloam Springs shouldn’t have won this game. One, there were all kinds of problems with the charter buses that day — long story short, the charters never showed up and the Panthers rode yellow buses down to central Arkansas.

Two, Greenbrier was a terrific team in 2010 led by future Division I quarterback Neal Burcham, and it was Greenbrier’s homecoming game.

Three, Siloam Springs was on a two-game losing streak with back-to-back losses to Harrison and Vilonia following an emotional win over Greenwood.

And yet, this game was total domination by Siloam Springs. The final score doesn’t do it justice.

Siloam Springs crushed Greenbrier on special teams — and Chris Villasenor returned the opening kickoff 64 yards, and later he returned another kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. Villasenor also caught a touchdown pass and had an interception on defense — one of three interceptions of Burcham.

Collin Matheny also returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown. Siloam Springs led 41-14 at one point and if the stories on the sideline are true it could have been worse.
