LAURA BEDNARSKY, FOOD STYLIST
We’re in a back-to-school frenzy getting two kids off to college. I always make their most-loved meals before they go. After we help them move in, I have time to indulge in some of my favorite activities:
The first thing I do after school starts is send my kids care packages filled with their go-to food items, a gift card and a homemade treat. This year I’m baking up the delicious Caramel Apple Muffins on page 52 to give them a little taste of home—if I don’t eat them all first!
I love to join friends at outdoor concerts, where we enjoy good food and wine. We set a fancy table complete with candles, and we each bring a dish to share. It’s a wonderful time to try new recipes, so for the next concert I’ll be bringing the Chicken Cordon Bleu Stromboli on page 84.
Coming to the end of farmers market season is bittersweet. I’ll savor the last produce of summer by cooking with as many fresh tomatoes as I can, especially in recipes such as the Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Pizza on page 22.
