Martha Rich

Smithsonian Magazine - - Contributors -

After a 15-year career in the corporate world, Rich quit her job and went back to college—to art school, where she studied illustration. Now a teacher of the subject, she is acclaimed in the art world for a bold and colorful style. In her collagelike painting of the fake Aretha Franklin (p. 84), Rich reimagines the woman as a paper doll dressing herself in another woman’s identity.
