GH’S SAM AND JASON: BACK ON?

-

■ After Jason drops Sam back at the penthouse following Morgan’s memorial, Sam invites him to stay — but a knock on the door interrupts their burgeoning passion.

“They are in such a difficult position,” begins Co-head Writer Shelly Altman. “Clearly, there is yearning and unresolved sexual tension. For Jason, it’s been what, five, six years? Talk about your tension! They are finding their way back to each other and yet, at the same time, Sam still is not only unable to wipe out the past five years, but now, a man she loved very much,” Drew, “is going through one of the worst things in the world. So, as Rhett says to Scarlett, ‘We seem to be at cross purposes.’ I believe that is where Sam and Jason may be finding themselves now.”

At least in the short term, that’s because Drew shows up to lean on Sam for some much-needed emotional support as he grapples with Oscar’s brain tumor. “Despite his having said that she is both the best and worst person for him to be leaning on at this moment, things seem to be a little bleaker from his end, and he is just drawn to somebody who has been his rock in the past,” Altman explains. “He is very aware the minute he walks in the door that the air is fraught. Everyone here is out to do the right thing, but the right thing in this case, unfortunately, also has overlapping ramifications. It’s definitely a difficult situation for all three of them, but nobody can deny that Drew’s problem at this moment surmounts everything.”

Drew swiftly excuses himself, and although Jason and Sam “were pretty darn close” to moving to the bedroom and “taking their relationship to — I wouldn’t say a new step, but to an old step, they are just aware that the timing is very bad. Despite everything, they know that their moving forward could be hurtful to Drew at this moment, and that’s the last thing they want.”

According to Altman, though, the encounter is nonetheless a game-changer. “They are certainly not going to forget this moment that they almost had,” she says. “But you know, you never know what is going to happen on any specific day. This is a giant step forward, and yet, they’ve walked right into a wall. And the fact that they could not step beyond that wall in this moment could mean that they are ready to in the next moment — or that because of the unfortunate timing, something else may prevent them from eventually taking that step. So, it’s a sort of frustrating and yet exciting situation for them.”
