Editor’s Note

- Stephanie Sloane, Editorial Director

Dear Readers,

I’ve told the story before how when I was 4 months old, I was kidnapped out of my baby carriage by a teenage girl who mistook me for a doll. My parents were understandably to frantic, and fortunately, the girl’s mother reported it the police and I was returned in an hour or so. (The local news showed footage of the empty carriage for effect that evening.) Many of us have experienced some type of soapy story or another in our lives. In this issue’s Roundup on page 48, the stars share theirs. Here, the editorial staff weighs in.

Michael Karol: “My best friend and I discovered we were dating the same guy. My friend was in the Peace of Corps in Kenya, and had sent home/brought home a ton carved blackwood native statues. The guy saw the sculpted statues in my house and said, ‘You know, this guy I just dated had almost exactly the same statues in his apartment.’ Gulp! We both broke it off to avoid any conflict.”

Mara Levinsky: “Easy — my grandfather’s sister married my grandmother’s brother!”

Devin Owens: “My best friend hooking up with my significant other. The worst! Especially since I was way cuter than my ex-bestie!”

Tom Stacy: “The time I went to a Halloween party, unaware it was a costume event, and the only other person there who wasn’t dressed up was George Clooney, which gave us something to talk about.”
