Y&R’S PHYLLIS FINDS OUT BILLY SLEPT WITH SUMMER
■ Fresh from his stint in rehab, Billy arrives at Jabot in good spirits. “Billy did what he was asked — or told — to do and sought treatment for his gambling addiction, but not before giving Summer exactly what she wanted,” says Executive Producer/head Writer Mal Young, referring to Billy’s one-night stand with Phyllis’s daughter. “He returns to town full of vigor, ready for a fresh start, but although rehab may have helped him, he’s still that mad, bad and dangerous-toknow Billy we love.”
At Jabot, Billy is stopped by Kyle, who reveals that he knows what went down between his uncle and Summer before Billy left town. Kyle advises Billy to let her know where she stands with him. “Kyle and Summer have a deep and complex history,” Young notes. “They may be in other relationships, but always find themselves drawn to each other. And though Summer’s antics may frustrate Kyle, he’ll always protect that vulnerable side of her he knows exists.”
Later, Summer shows up and is thrilled to see Billy has returned, and declares she wants to be part of his future. “Summer thinks Billy is back in touch with his wild side and she believes that he’s far better off with her than with Phyllis,” Young explains. “Summer is also wildly attracted to something she can’t have, which makes Billy even more appealing to her. Summer’s night with Billy only intensified her attraction to him.”
Billy, however, impresses upon Summer that he was in a bad place when they had sex. “It’s clear that Billy does not harbor any intimate feelings toward Summer,” Young points out. “He’s annoyed that she isn’t able to realize that their night together was purely physical. He’ll try to let her down easy, but Summer is in for a rude awakening when she pushes Billy too far.”
Phyllis arrives while the two are arguing and learns the truth about their tryst. “Phyllis’s worst nightmare comes true,” says Young. “Both her and Summer’s worlds will be rocked when they learn of Billy’s true motivations for sleeping with Summer — the ultimate revenge sex to not only punish Phyllis, but Nick, too, given that Summer is his daughter. That will have a long-lasting effect on the Phyllis/billy/summer dynamic, but he’s also in for a very unpleasant surprise when he discovers why he can’t resume the throne at Jabot.”
