WILL DREW BETRAY SONNY ON GH?

-

■ As Drew mulls over Margaux’s complicated offer — the flash drive of his memory map in exchange for his cooperation in taking down Sonny — Sonny makes a plea to Jason’s twin not to use Jason’s memories against him.

While he weighs his options, Drew again turns to Sam. “Despite their breakup, and despite his noble attempts to put distance between them both so that they can both move on with their lives, there is no denying that these two will always share a very real, a very material, connection,” observes Co-head Writer Chris Van Etten. “In separating himself from her, he has kind of lost a guiding light that he has had since he began his relationship with Sam. He has not found such a thing in her absence. So basically, he bites the bullet and sucks it up and goes to see her. Maybe, in seeing her and talking things out with her, he can reframe this issue in his head and arrive at the right decision.”

Later, Drew gets a visit from Sonny. “I would describe their relationship as fraught,” Van Etten says. “Despite the friction between Drew and Sonny, Sonny would never ascribe any ill intentions to the part of Drew. But Sonny understands that Drew has problems of his own, and that unfortunately, because of Margaux’s positioning, Drew’s problems become Sonny’s problems. He knows that if Drew plays ball with Margaux and supplies her with his knowledge of all the things Sonny and Jason have done over the course of their many decades together as gangsters with hearts of gold, it is a fundamental challenge to Sonny’s freedom. The one person he always trusted in his life as a criminal in Port Charles was Jason, and Drew knows everything that Jason knows. It is because of that very trust between Jason and Sonny that Sonny stands to lose everything, and his family could lose everything.”

Sonny implores Drew not to throw in with Margaux by citing the many people they both care about who would be affected in the process. “Drew does not want any of these people to get hurt,” Van Etten notes. “Despite the many facets and many wounded feelings in the entire mess of the last year, Drew doesn’t hold any of that against people like Sonny and Carly and the people they love — Michael, Josslyn, Avery, even Jason. They are all unwitting victims in someone else’s horrible plot. So, Drew is taking into account not just his own life, and Sam’s life and Scout’s life and Oscar’s life and Kim’s life, but he has got to take these other lives into account, as well. Drew is suddenly holding many lives in his hands, and it is a very weighty responsibility. There seems to be no clear or right decision. Somebody loses no matter what he chooses.”

Drew makes his decision by week’s end — and lets Margaux know what it is.
