DAYS: Gabi Comes Clean With Abigail

-

■ After months of plotting to make everyone in Salem believe Abigail’s multiple personalities are back and that she’s mentally ill, Gabi reveals to Abigail that she’s been gaslighting her.

“There’s definitely an air of pride in what she’s done,” says portrayer Camila Banus, describing Gabi’s face-toface with her old friend. “It’s like, ‘You thought you could do something evil to me, I can do something just as bad to you.’ At the end of the day, Gabi’s energy in all of this is about coming in with fairness. She’s coming in to balance the scales. She’s coming in to be the judge and say, ‘What you did to me was messed up, and I’m going to correct it.’ And correcting it means revenge.”

Gabi shows Abigail the Gabby wig and “tells her she was the one who planted it to make it look like Gabby was back,” explains Banus. “She knows that regardless of what she tells Abigail, there’s nothing she can do about it. Even if Abigail does say something to someone, no one is going to believe her. There’s no validity to her word anymore.”

And Gabi expresses great satisfaction in that, after suffering so much pain at Abigail’s hands. “This is a step on Gabi’s way of trying to get over all the emotions she’s feeling,” notes Banus. Abigail is furious that her “best friend” could have actually done all of this to her. The verbal battle quickly turns physical, and Abigail lunges for Gabi. “It takes Gabi a little bit by surprise,” admits Banus. “That’s an action Abigail’s alters would [take] more than her. Gabi thinks maybe Abigail has lost it ... maybe her personalities are all integrating. She doesn’t know who this person is.”

As fate would have it, Chad walks in on the altercation, “which kind of works out for Gabi,” says Banus. “Gabi manipulates the situation and uses it to her advantage. She’s like, ‘You saw it. She just attacked me.’ ” Abigail swears that Gabi has the wig, but Gabi manages to hide it. Chad takes the incident as further proof of Abigail’s degenerating mental state, and she is restrained. And none of it seems to bother Gabi a bit. “At this point, Abigail is not Gabi’s friend, so there is no empathy there,” the actress shrugs. “Abigail was not there when Gabi was being taken away by prison staff. She wasn’t there when Gabi was being beaten to a pulp. No one felt badly for her. So Gabi does not care at all that Abigail is being held down, because she deserves it.”

In fact, privately, Gabi gloats about the turn of events. “Abigail tried to destroy Gabi’s life,” recounts Banus. “Gabi took it into her hands to get revenge. That was her mission, and she accomplished it. Gabi definitely thinks it calls for a celebration.”
