Lucas Adams (Tripp, DAYS)

-

■ Were you surprised that Tripp is the one who framed Ben by planting his fingerprint on the accelerant can? “Actually, I suspected it was Tripp. Victoria [Konefal, Ciara] and I had talked about it. When we were going over the scenes leading up to this story, I remember asking [a production person], ‘Hey, I have a question. Did I plant that?’ They were like, ‘As far as I know, I don’t think so.’ When it turned [up in the script] that it was Tripp, I was like, ‘You guys lied to me!’ I totally called that. Tripp was talking way too suspiciously to not be the one who planted it.”

When you were initially told it wasn’t Tripp, did you try to figure out who the real culprit could be? “Yes, Victoria and I started going over every character. ‘Okay, who could it be? I guess Chad hates Ben.’ Really, everybody hates Ben. It was a question of who had the wherewithal to know how to [plant the evidence].”

Do you like the twist? “I do. It really brings Tripp back to where he used to be, the guy who wants to do the right thing. He thinks that this will put everything on the right path to where it’s supposed to be.”

So that is Tripp’s motivation? “Yes. He doesn’t understand why people believe Ben is suddenly good or good at all. Tripp really thinks he’s doing the right thing by putting Ben behind bars.” Is there any explanation as to how Tripp knew how to lift a fingerprint?

“Yes. He’s picked up a couple of things from his dear old daddy.

There was a case Patch was working on as a private investigator, where a person did that. Tripp found out how it was done and kind of stole the idea.”

Did you apologize to Robert [Scott Wilson, Ben] about setting up Ben?

“No, I didn’t apologize. Are you kidding me? I joked about it with him in the beginning, before we knew about it. I said, ‘I think I did it.’ He said, ‘That would be kind of crazy.’ So we talked about it for a while. When it finally came out that Tripp did it, I was pretty excited.”

Is Tripp worried about Claire’s involvement? “She’s manipulative, too, so she understands how to work this kind of stuff. At first Tripp was worried, but Claire is one of those people that Tripp kind of weirdly trusts. He’s always been a good friend to her, and she’s been a pretty good friend to him. So he was okay with Claire being the one person who knew about this.”

Obviously, with the truth out, there will be repercussions for Ciara and Tripp’s relationship. What can you tease about what will happen? “Ciara and Tripp’s relationship is going to hit a snag. Tripp’s really going to have to step up and take responsibility for his actions. This is going to be one of the make-it or break-it points for their relationship.”
