B&B’S Brady Bunch Connects On-screen

■ This week, Wayne

Brady (Reese) and his real-life daughter,

Maile Brady (Tiffany), will share their first soap scene.

As the elder Brady notes, acting with your child is not always a harmonious family affair. “As a parent, you always want your child to be the best that they can be,” he states.

“We’re a happily competitive household, where we always strive in academics, or just in life. For all the football dads out there, I’m the drama dad. I’m giving her line readings and she’s like, ‘Dad, I can do this.’ Then, I was like, ‘You’re right, Maile. You can.’ So, it has been a life lesson in trying to give her space.”

It was easier said than done, however, he admits. “I actually had to catch myself, because I started to do the ‘Dad-ager’ thing, and started to give her notes,” he recalls with a chuckle. “She had to check me, and it really put me in my place. She simply said, ‘Dad, you are my peer right now. We are on this show. You are not producing or directing it, so it would be weird for me to take notes from you now.’ I just looked at her and said, ‘Maile, I apologize. You are absolutely correct.’ I had to apologize to my fellow actor.”

But it didn’t take long for Brady to see his daughter as a professional coworker. “I learned that, ‘Hey, your dad can be a little enthusiastic and maybe cross that boundary,’ and once we got that out of the way, it was smooth sailing,” he reports. “We high-fived each other after, and we loved it.”

As for Maile, she was proud to be working opposite her Emmy-winning dad. “Speaking on a non-personal level, he is so talented,” she beams. “That is definitely my honest, unbiased opinion.”
