DAYS: JULIE BUSTS GABI
■ Julie hits pay dirt while searching Gabi’s room for evidence that she’s been gaslighting Abigail, and finds the real results of baby Charlotte’s paternity test. But before she can expose her nemesis, a confrontation with Gabi leaves Julie at the bottom of a staircase, clinging to consciousness.
“It’s the usual bitch scene,” declares Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) with a chuckle. “Julie’s searching for evidence that will reveal that Gabi has been conniving, and she finds what she’s looking for. Gabi catches her and says, ‘What are you doing here?’ ” Julie responds — and then some. “Julie confronts her and gets to say quite a few things,” recounts Hayes. “I wrote some of the lines myself. I was supposed to accuse her of being a liar, but instead I called her mendacious.”
After chastising Gabi, Julie announces that, “She’s going to go tell everybody [what she’s uncovered],” says Seaforth Hayes. “Julie’s feeling justified in all of her mistrust of Gabi. She feels the sooner she gets this out in the world, the better everybody is going to be, except Gabi.”
Gabi yanks the paternity test results out of Julie’s hand, and, in the process, Julie goes tumbling down the stairs. Chad and Sonny rush to Julie’s rescue, as Gabi looks on. “Julie attempts to explain, but she’s in no shape to,” notes Seaforth Hayes. “[Chad and Sonny] don’t even get that Julie’s trying to tell them something. They just want her to stay quiet and calm.”
After Julie passes out, Chad questions Gabi about what went down. Gabi reveals that Julie was rummaging through her room and her belief that Julie is still trying to prove that she set up Abigail. JJ arrives to take Julie to the hospital, and Chad goes with them.
Later, Hope questions Chad about the accident, while Lani and Eli question Gabi, who sticks to her story. However, Gabi fears that if Julie does regain consciousness and exposes her, she’ll be sent back to prison and away from Arianna. So she visits Julie and contemplates smothering her.
Luckily for Julie, JJ interrupts and thanks Gabi for stopping him from committing suicide last Christmas Eve and declares his faith in her goodness. Gabi realizes that murder isn’t the answer and leaves, but on her way out, she’s cornered by a vengeful Abigail.
As for Julie, she holds the key to both Abigail and Gabi’s plights. “Julie did all this to help Abigail and to try to stop the manipulation of the people she loves,” notes Seaforth Hayes. “Finding the paternity test was the silver bullet. It proved the meddling, the manipulation, and the duplicitous nature of Gabi. Julie was in a state of urgency when she had the accident. When she comes to, which is a long way down the line, the first thing on her mind is to get the truth out there.”
