Writer Mal Young helped her to get a grasp on her character. “The first day I picked up my script I spoke to him, and he’s beyond nice,” she enthuses. “He mentioned how much he had been working on Mia and in some ways she kind of represents his experience of being from Liverpool and wanting to work for a better life. He basically entrusted me with that responsibility and I just found that to be insanely beautiful to have that opportunity and also to have the freedom. He’s been wonderful to help me with all the information, so I need to do that for him and for the show.”
