thumbs up! DAYS OF OUR LIVES Lovin’ Leo

Leo’s re­turn to Salem has given the Will/sonny story the shot in the arm it needed af­ter Paul’s de­par­ture. Just when it looked like the star-crossed duo would fully re­unite, in walked the pre­sumed-dead Leo, full of swag­ger and bite, and ready to claim what he feels is right­fully his: Sonny and his vast fam­ily for­tune. With zing­ing one-lin­ers (“Is that any way to speak to the guy you mur­dered? Oh, I see you got a new rug.”) and a twin­kle in his eye, Greg Rikaart is clearly rel­ish­ing the chance to res­ur­rect his smarmy al­ter ego. The sec­ond time around is al­ready su­pe­rior to the first, as if the time away gave the writ­ers the chance to flesh out Leo’s more das­tardly side and craft a big­ger tale that makes use of Emmy-win­ning Rikaart’s im­mense tal­ent. While “Wil­son” will al­ways be the end-game, it’s hard not to be in­trigued by how the new Mr. Sonny Kiri­akis will make ev­ery­one’s hap­pily ever af­ter seem like a liv­ing hell.
