QI love the episode when the Horton family hangs the ornaments on the tree on DAYS. Are they the same ones every year? How do they keep them from breaking?

Jessica R., Lancaster, PA

A The ornaments are the same every year. In the 8/3/15 issue, Prop Master Steve Dempsey explained, “They are stored well-packed in the holiday boxes that are seen on TV, just with a lot more tissue paper and soft napkins. Each ornament is individually wrapped and labeled by name, and a list is created for each box of the ornaments held within. It has become tradition that the prop master hangs the ornaments on the tree [if it’s not scripted for a character to do it on camera], then after taping is completed each day, the prop master removes them from the tree and stores them for safekeeping. There is also an announcement to the cast and crew prior to handling the ornaments about the proper way to hold, hang and overall care of the ornaments. No ornament has recently been broken by accident. Most of them are glass, so having them on a set with rugs and carpet is a blessing and has saved some close calls in the past.” In a segment on the DOOL App, Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) talked about the importance of the occasion. “It really is such a historical part of our show,” she noted. “The ornaments are real antiques, so I mean, we can’t even touch them until it’s time to tape. We’re a little scared. We’re like, ‘We don’t want to be the first one to break one.’ We do feel like we need to represent it well every year because people look forward to it.”

QOn GH, with all of the talk about the 25th anniversary of the Ryan Chamberlain murders, I know he was a serial killer. But for those of us who weren’t watching GH at that time, can you give us a brief synopsis of that story? What was his connection to Felicia?

Sue C., Newark, NY

A Ryan was introduced in 1992 when the pediatrician joined the staff at the hospital. Felicia had encountered him before, when he was using his go-to alias (Todd Wilson), and had been an eyewitness to his murder of a woman named Gloria — but luckily for Ryan, she didn’t remember this, due to a bout of amnesia. He and Felicia began dating, but his obsession with the blonde was obvious (replete with a “stalker wall” of photos
